Gods Armor – Helmet of Salvation

Do you understand the full power of the Armor of God? Ephesians 6 tells us of God’s Armor and how we can use it against the evil that is in this world. Are you prepared to fight? Are you prepared for battle? The battle is here, it’s been raging for years, and it’s only going to get worse. It’s a battle for your soul? Are you ready?!? If not, let’s get ready….

We Start With the Helmet of Salvation

First of all, what is Salvation, and what does it mean? Salvation means to be saved, or delivered from something. But what exactly would the helmet of salvation deliver us from. We must look at this in terms of spiritual warfare, and what that means to us. We are in a battle for our souls. Each and every day, from the time we wake to the time we go to bed; and even when we sleep. We must always be prepared to fight off whatever battle comes our way.

Satan and his army are always on the hunt for the next prey, and the next person to tempt. It’s so easy to get caught up in life and what others are doing, that we can lose sight of what our final goal should be, and that is to be with our Father in Heaven when all is said and done. Our thoughts are the first thing that can be a hindrance to our salvation. When we guard our thoughts by putting the helmet of salvation on, first thing in the morning, we have protected and armored ourselves up for the day against any attacks that may come against us. I am not saying that it will thwart all attacks, but you will see a significant decline in how many you have.

Digging A Little Deeper

When you think of salvation, think of it like this: It is the deliverance of people from eternal death from sin and acceptance into the kingdom of God. When you accept Yahusha as your Lord and Savior, and ask Him to walk with you through this life, He will be with you through all things. He is not only your Lord, he is your companion, your friend, your Savior, and the one who understands everything about you, even when you don’t understand it yourself. Once you understand that Yahusha lived, was crucified, and rose again from the dead so that you could be forgiven of your sins, you must understand that death is the penalty for our sins.

How to be Saved From the Penalty of Death

There is one way to the Father and that is through the son.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world, to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Yahusha Hamashiach, our Lord.

Romans 5:8-10

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the Death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

We have all acted abominably in the sight of God. The sins that we commit break our Lords commandments and the Laws He laid down for us when Moses went to the top of the mountain. These laws were designed for our good, not to hurt us, but to help us. Sin is a vile thing to God. So vile, that it requires death as its penalty. But God is merciful, and He provided an out through His Son, Yahusha, who was willing to die in our place. In order for the world to be saved, we needed a savior! That savior, was Yahusha Hamashiach.

Receiving Salvation

Salvation is not something that we can earn. It’s not a job, and it isn’t something you can barter for. Salvation is a gift and not something that we can earn through our actions or behaviors. We cannot buy our way into heaven by merits. Just because WE think we are good people, does not mean God thinks we are good people. It is God’s judgment that determines whether we are good; and if we are to judge ourselves by God’s laws, we must do so honestly.

The best way to do that is to hold yourself accountable to the Ten Commandments, and ask yourself:

  1. Have you ever placed value on anything or anyone more than God?
  2. Have you ever worshipped Idols? (Movie stars, singers?)
  3. Have you ever taken the Lords name in vain? (Said Oh my G_d, etc?)
  4. Do you keep the Sabbath? (Do you worship on Sabbath? (Saturday))
  5. Do you honor your mother and father? (Do you listen to them and do what they tell you? Or do you disobey, and do what you want?)
  6. Have you ever murdered anyone? (Have you ever hated anyone?)
  7. Have you committed adultery? (Have you divorced and remarried without infidelity in the marriage?)
  8. Have you ever stolen anything?
  9. Have you ever lied?

And

10 Have you ever wanted something that was someone else’s so much so, that you didn’t like them for it?

These are just a few of the ways in which we sin against God. We can seek forgiveness, and repent of our sin, just by asking with our whole heart. We must understand though that when we do this, it is a commitment to Him to remain faithful, and to wholeheartedly repent from your old self, and begin your new life, with a renewed spirit.

Act 2:38 says: Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Yahusha Hamashiach for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Nothing that we can ever do will ever make up for the sins we committed in the past, that caused our Savior’s death, but we can change the way we do things now, with a renewed hope and a clean spirit and heart and move forward from here.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

All we have to do is ask God and He will help us to obey His laws and remain faithful to Him. When we ask to receive Yahusha into our lives to become our Lord and Savior, we are coming under God’s grace and have been saved (which equates to being forgiven of sins). We are no longer slaves to death, and we have been pardoned.

So the helmet is hope that protects our minds from discouragement and despair that is in the world. We also receive comfort by focusing on Christ’s sacrifice to save us and the Kingdom to which we will soon be inhabitants of in the future.

Is your Helmet Secure?

Entering the glorious kingdom is the salvation we are fighting for. Do not lose sight of your salvation, for this coming kingdom with its everlasting peace and prosperity, makes all the struggles we face in this life worth the struggle. In the end we receive a glorious crown of righteousness. As long as we remain faithful to God, and keep moving toward our victorious destiny, nothing will keep us from the everlasting arms of our Father.

Revelation 21:1-4

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard with a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Some Food For Thought

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12

We are each responsible for our own salvation, and whether or not we choose to accept the invitation into the Kingdom of God. Once we do this, we are responsible for staying on the path of obedience, with God’s help. The following questions may help you stay the path and check yourself from time to time.

  • Am I expressing Godly love? To find the answer see 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
  • Do I bring peace? Or do I make trouble?
  • Am I an optimist or a pessimist?
  • Do I show kindness to others through acts of service?
  • Do I show patience? (Even when I a stressed?)
  • What music, television shows, and movies do I entertain? Do they live up to God’s standards?
  • Do I make commitments and not follow through?
  • When I disagree with others, do I verbally assault them, or do I handle things respectfully, and with gentleness, and kindness?
  • Do I take care of needs before wants?

Do you find yourself lacking in any of these areas? Where are you the strongest? Where are you the weakest? What can you do to improve? Take some time to think about the areas where you are weak and design a plan for improving those areas, making sure to pray and talk to God, seeking His guidance.
